Part 3 - Eggs
Eggs in the game contain bonus items. They take two shots to crack open, but
you can also break them by running into them. This makes them bounce forward,
so unless you hit them with a jump from above they can end up some distance
away. This can knock them into holes where they'll be lost. To avoid this, sometimes
you need to jump vertically into them so they bounce straight up before breaking.
The Axe
If you don't already have the axe, most eggs in the came will
contain one. It's the essential item for killing monsters and is often available
outside of eggs when you don't have one.
See Part 11 on where you can find an axe if you lose one, and more importantly
where it's essential you don't lose your axe.
The Skateboard
for destroying
The skateboard is a very underestimated tool in the game. If you
know how to use it properly it becomes great fun and makes a lot of jumps easier,
because you get good control over your speed in mid-jump. It also stops you
sliding on ice. If you don't know how to use it, it'll probably get you killed.
I've seen people destroy their skateboard as soon as they get it, others avoid
some of the skateboards completely.
It's worth 200 points when you pick it up, and another 50 when you destroy it
by running into a monster, stone or icicle. This could save your life.
It's destroyed without bonus points if you trip on a corner.
It's destroyed without bonus if you still have it when you get up to a boss.
Normally this is on top of the hill, but you can get it to last right into the
cave if you keep a pursuing monster on the screen.
It's also destroyed without bonus if you run into things that reveal hidden
doll bonuses.
You can get two 50 point bonuses if you destroy it on two things simultaneously,
but this is usually very risky. An easy place to try this is the double rock
following the springboard on Area 1 Round 4.
If you already have the skateboard, a skateboard egg will contain a small milk.
The Fairy
She may be an angel since she has a halo, but she does hold a magic wand. She hovers around your head for about ten seconds, and during this time you can run through any monster and get points (you can still get die by falling down holes). The more monsters you run through, the more points you get.

After the 21st monster, 500 points are awarded for each subsequent
monsters. If you have the fairy and the death at the same time, the fairy will
kill death and you'll get 10,000 points for it.
While the fairy is flying away but still on the screen you can continue to run
through monsters. You need to take advantage of this on later stages.
Magic Mushroom
+ Junk Food
The Magic Mushroom is the most significant item when it comes to collecting points. You get 100 points for picking it up, and until the end of the round (or if you die) all fruit turns into sweets and junk food all worth 500 points each. Typically, this will double your score for the round depending on how early into the round the mushroom appears. See part 6 for a list of the fruits.
The egg just before the second signpost in every Round 4 is special - destroy it with your axe and you'll get a magic mushroom. Run into it and you'll get a large milk (always worth 500 points). It all depends on which side of the sign in breaks open on. The magic mushroom is definately the better choice.
Small Milk
+ Vitality
The small milk is most often found inside skateboard eggs when you already have a skateboard. It gives you 1000 points and a big increase in vitality. It is also found in the cave just before every boss (not in an egg).
Large Milk
or , + Full Vitality
The large milk is found in eggs on rare occassions. It's usually worth 10,000 points, but only if you're quick to pick it up. If you get it from the first egg in any round 4, it will only be worth 500 points. There are also other places late in the game where it's only worth 500. Whatever the point value, it gives you maximum vitality.
The Spotted Egg
The Spotted Egg always contains Death holding a sickle. Avoid breaking this egg!
- Drains Vitality
for destroying by finishing
the round
for destroying with the fairy
He hovers around your head, draining your vitality while the music plays slower. He stays there until your vitality reaches two bars no matter how long it takes. If you get another Death the music goes even slower and your vitality drains even faster. If you manage to finish the round while Death is still there, he is destroyed and you get 5000 points. He can also be killed by having the fairy at the same time. This is worth 10,000 points.
Tricks for avoiding the spotted egg
If you can knock the egg into a hole or water, Death won't come out (eg. Area 6 Round 1). You can also prevent Death from coming out by breaking the egg with your axe before it comes on the screen. This takes some anticipation, because you have to get close enough to where the egg is for the game to recognise it as a sprite, but not so close for it to actually appear on the screen.
