Part 9 - Bosses
Boss monsters appear at the end of each area. Once you have a good tactic for
fighting each boss, they're not too hard. You usually have to jump high to hit
their head (the only part that takes damage) and you can get two axes off. If
you're close, you can hit them three times in one jump. Or if you're close you
can do a small jump and get them. This is particularly handy for the later bosses
where you don't want to jump in the path of their fireballs. An axe is always
available at the entrance to their cave if you don't have one, along with a
small milk.
You get 100 points for each axe that hits a boss's head, and 2000 points for the final blow. For extra round bonus points, it's good to jump the small milk at the entrance to their lair. Then when they're dead you can pick up the extra vitality. Just make sure it doesn't get off the screen so you can't pick it up.
- Cyclops Damage: 8 shots to kill |
Tactics: Very easy. If you're quick you can kill him before he can fire a shot off. |
- Rhinoceros Damage: 11 shots to kill |
Tactics: Another easy one. Stay close to him, and after every double fireball jump up and axe him in the head. |
- Demon Damage: 14 shots to kill |
Tactics: Very easy. He moves fast, but you should be able to kill him before he fire off a shot. |
- Skunk Damage: 17 shots to kill |
Tactics: The bosses start getting trickier with this one. If you have trouble, stay close to him when he moves forward. As he moves back, wait for each fireball then do a small jump close to him and axe his head. |
- Eagle Damage: 20 shots to kill |
Tactics: A bit tricky. He moves fast so you have to watch that he doesn't run into you. You might want to stand back and jump some of his fireballs. |
- Tiger Damage: 23 shots to kill |
Tactics: This guy's fast, but he stops so much to throw fireballs that you can stand pretty close to him. Keep doing small jumps and axing his head while moving back bit by bit. His fireballs should go over your head. |
- Elephant Damage: 26 shots to kill |
Tactics: Watch out that you don't run straight into this guy. The best tactic is to hold back and jump his fireballs unless he's close to the left. Axe him whenever you can. |
- Giant Damage: 29 shots to kill |
Tactics: Significantly harder than the rest. His low fireballs can be jumped even though they're usually double. Try to axe him between each volley. Be careful ducking his fireballs because they're low and he moves so fast. Watch his hand to see whether he's going to use one fireball or two. |
Be sure to pick up the stolen item before jumping on the final platform to the
goal. If you have the item, the platform will go up. If you don't, it will drop
down and there's no way you can finish the round without dying and killing the
boss again. For a bit of a laugh, you can stand really close to the boss as
he walks back onto the platform. The platform will drop, but the boss doesn't
fall down the hole! Of course, you're stuffed at this point.
